Iran: IR655 testifies to US brutality

Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says US indifference toward the downing of Iran Air Flight 655 testifies to its inhuman actions.

“The appalling act of shooting down Iran Air Flight 655, which resulted in the tragic death of nearly 300 innocent civilians in 1988, is one of the greatest human tragedies in history,” said Ahmadinejad in a Wednesday commemoration ceremony for victims of the Airbus incident.

“The tragic incident lays bare that the United States will stop at nothing to secure its longstanding doctrine of cupidity and hegemony,” he continued.

President Ahmadinejad said the IR655 catastrophe indicates that US belligerence will not be tolerated in Today's world.

“This is while the main culprits behind this heinous crime were awarded with medals of Honor for causing the death of innocent Iranians,” he concluded.

The Iranian passenger jet was destroyed by the US Navy's guided missile cruiser USS Vincennes between Bandar Abbas and Dubai on Sunday July 3, 1988, over the Strait of Hormuz.

The White House claims the incident was an honest mistake on behalf of the US Navy. Iran, however, says there is no way that an Airbus A300 can be mistaken for an F-14 Tomcat fighter.

Iran has called on the international community to never forget Washington's atrocities in the Persian Gulf, the US government's refusal to claim responsibility for the incident, and its refusal to apologize to the Iranian nation. PressTV
