Suicide attack rocks southeast Iran
A suicide attack has killed 2 police officers in the city of Saravan in a region where terrorist activities have been on the rise in recent months.
The bomber carrying explosives tried to enter the Saravan police department with his car but failed and was killed in the explosion.
Two police officers were killed and nearly 20 others were wounded.
The city of Saravan, located in the southeastern province of Sistan-Baluchistan, has become the focus of the Jundullah terrorist group. The cell, which is reportedly supported by certain Saudi officials, abducted 16 police officers at a checkpoint around the city on June 12.
The police officers were killed by the terrorists after Tehran refused to release 200 members of the cell in exchange for the abductees.
The cell has also taken responsibilities for a number of attacks against Iranian civilians as well as high-profile government and security officials in the southeastern province.
