'IAEA to decide on Israel resolution'
Iran's Ambassador to the IAEA, Ali-Asghar Soltaniyeh |
Iran's Ambassador to the IAEA, Ali-Asghar Soltaniyeh made the announcement about the resolution sponsored by Iran and Arab states in an interview with Press TV.
“Tomorrow the conference on the resolution is off because of the Eid-ul-Fitr but on Friday and Saturday discussions will continue and by Saturday the results of the conference will be known,” Soltaniyeh said on Wednesday.
The draft resolution calls on Middle East countries not to test or develop nukes and not to hinder the process of creating a nuclear-free zone.
Israel, which has called the Arab move "substantially unwarranted and flawed," filed a motion Monday for it to be struck off the IAEA General Conference agenda.
In May, former US President Jimmy Carter unveiled that Israel has at least 150 nuclear warheads in its arsenal.
Tel Aviv has never confirmed it has nuclear weapons, but this has been widely assumed since a scientist leaked details in the 1980s.
The 52nd general conference of the 145-member IAEA opened in Vienna on Monday for drawing up general policies on a whole range of issues, from non-proliferation and nuclear terrorism to medical applications of nuclear technology.
