Kabul rejects US' Iran claims over Taliban
Taliban militants |
The US has on several occasions accused Iran of funneling weapons and military aid to the Taliban while Iran has categorically denied such charges, saying that the country backs security and stability in Afghanistan.
Mohammad-Homayoun Hamidzadeh said that we have no concrete evidence for such claims, but noted that the majority of security problems facing Afghanistan were rooted in external factors.
According to Hamidzadeh, the 'enemies' were seeking to destabilize his country by taking hostages, forcing people to carrying out acts of terror as well as sending foreign terrorists to the country.
The accusation against Tehran comes as Afghan officials including President Hamid Karzai have called Iran the supporter of Afghanistan, maintaining that the two countries enjoy friendly relations.
The US-led forces invaded Afghanistan in 2001 to initiate what the US President, George W Bush called the 'War on Terror' to destroy al-Qaeda and to remove Taliban. Since then, many Afghan civilians have lost their lives in various acts of terror and many have been displaced.
Millions of displaced Afghans have lived in the Islamic Republic both before and after the US-led invasion of the country to flee the catastrophic situation in their homeland. More
