First DNA database underway
The Israeli police founded its first DNA database, Yedioth Ahronoth reported Friday.
The database is said to include, for the time being, DNA samples form violent offenders, sex offenders, drug traffickers and security prisoners, and will include some 9,000 initial samples by the end of 2008.
A senior police source told Yedioth Ahronoth that the database may "provide breakthroughs in the investigation of serious cases that have hit a dead end."
The DNA profiling pilot program was launch in the Ayalon Prison Thursday, when police officers collected saliva samples from 183 prisoners.
All prisoners were briefed on the program prior to the pilot taking place, and have agreed to give samples. Y Net News
