Israel detains 25% of Palestinians since 1967 occupation

Israeli occupation forces have detained about 25 per cent, (700,000) of Palestinians living in the West Bank and Gaza Strip since Israel occupied the Palestinian territories in 1967, according to a report issued on Saturday by Palestinian Ministry of Prisoner Affairs.

There were tens of thousands of Palestinians who have also detained for hours or few days and then released.

According to the report more than 60,000 were arrested during the Palestinian intifada on September 28, 2000 and there are 46 parliament members and former cabinet minister who are still in custody. Israel arrest campaign was intensified during the intifada to include family members of those wanted by the occupation authority in an attempt to extricate their confessions by force.
